The lash tile is where you place the different rows of lashes that you will be applying to your clients. It's how you organize the lashes for a set. The tile is the key to keeping everything sanitary, out of the way, and efficient.
Could you imagine having to fan lashes from the strip in the lash try? You would have to grab each individual tray everytime you need a certain length or diameter. That just makes no sense, but you never know the things people will be trying!
This is where a good lash tile comes in. Lash tiles come in all shapes and sizes, and there are pros and cons to all of them. We are going to go through the different kind of lash tiles on the market so you can make a decision on what is going to work best for you and your lash business.

As you can see there are a few options when it comes to lash tiles. Honestly, the best way is to try some and see what works best for you. We have even bought tiles from Home Depot when we were in a pinch! However, these days we are loving using our Lash Anarchist matte lash tiles. Who doesn't love a protective, sanitary cover?!

We took inspiration from the Vogue Youtube series where they ask different celebrities 73 random questions. Our questions aren't random because we wanted to give you some lash value, but we did record it and post it on Youtube. If you don't feel like reading the questions and answers, watch the video:
If you're still here reading, let's get into the questions:
1. Are lash extensions bad for your natural lashes?
They can be if they are done improperly. If they are done correctly with the right isolation and the right weight, the lash extensions will not damage your natural lashes.
2. Why do I have bad retention with lash extensions?
The main reason a lash artist wouldn't have good lash extension retention could be because of not having a proper connection from the lash extension to the natural lash. Not getting your angles right with the bases and not using enough glue. Another thing could be the aftercare part of the service. If your client isn't and you aren't cleaning the lashes before the service, if there is any buildup or makeup on the natural lash, this could affect the retention as well. The proper weight is another thing to look at. If the extension is too heavy they could fall off prematurely.
3. Is megavolume too heavy?
It can be! I like to tell my students that if they do end up putting something too heavy on a client, you will know when they come back and have really bad retention. Those heavy lashes will most likely fall off prematurely, so you can always go a little lighter on the next set and see if that helps.
4. Are people really allergic to the lash extension adhesive?
Yes, most definitely. When someone is allergic to the adhesive they are actually allergic to the ingredient called Cyanoacrylate, which is the base of all the lash glues. Even if someone asks for a sensitive glue, they are still going to get this ingredient. If cyanoacrylate wasn't in the glues, it wouldn't work the way it needs to. The sensitive ones just have less amounts of the ingredient. If someone is allergic to it, they will be allergic to it either way.
5. What's the difference between russian volume and regular volume?
If you're going to do a true russian volume there are a lot of rules around it and its a very specific technique. Russian volume is always going to use .07 lashes, narrow fans, and perfectly symmetrical. If you're going to do regular volume it's going to be a little more forgiving. You can make medium or wider fans and you aren't stuck with just using .07 diameter lashes.
6. Does mascara hurt lash extensions?
YES!! Mascara has basic ingredients that will really throw your lash game off. Mascara has a waxy residue that coats the lash and it's super hard to get off. This could also be something that affects the retention. Another negative about using mascara on lash extensions is that it will close your volume fans and ruin all of that hard work!
7. What happens if you glue a lash extension to two natural lashes?
This is a matter of isolation which is the most important part of putting on eyelash extensions. What happens is that your little hairs grow in different stages, so if you glue a lash together with another lash - if one is shorter one could be in the growth stage and the other could be ready to fall off, so when the one one that is ready comes off, it will bring the smaller one with it.

]]>Becoming a lash artist in 2022 is definitely a lot easier than when I started, but there are still some things you should know.
If you would like to skip reading this post and watch it as a Youtube video, check it out below:
Let's get into the steps -
Contact other lash artists in your area and ask them to shadow them while they do some lash sets. Some might be okay with it, some might not. But if you are able to find someone to watch, this is a great first step.
Look into the regulations in the state you are going to be working in. Some states require you to have a license to do lash extensions and some don't.
Go to a bunch of different schools and see which ones fit better with your lifestyle and choose that. They have all different types of schedules, possibly allowing you to attend school at the same time as your current job!
Practice doing lashes on literally anyone that will let you. They will be your walking billboard. You can gain possible clients from the people you practice on, as well as finding more people to practice on to really hone in your craft. Not only will you get practice from doing a bunch of different lash models, but you're also going to get evidence of your skills in way of a portfolio of lashes.
Take pictures and videos of every single lash set you do. You can go back and look at the progress you made, use them for your portfolio, and have them for your social media. What I liked to do when I was first starting out in lashes was to take one of my photos and put it up next to another lash artist's and see if there is anything that I needed to work on.
I hope that these tips help you start preparing for a new career in lashes. There are definitely much more steps to take to really be profitable, but these should get you started and in a good place to start building your skills and building up your portfolio to attract those paying clients.
You can always reach out to me on Instagram @lashanarchist if you're still struggling to get off the ground, but I will also be posting videos on my Youtube every week more catered to the newbie lash artist!
Thank you so much for reading, until next time.

In 2022 let’s ALL ditch the excuses.
5 years ago I charged $50-$70 for fills (roughly $35-45/hour) in Arizona. I made it my MISSION, to bring in $85/hour.
Eventually I got my pricing to $130/fill flat (classic/volume/mega) & I had a robust and loyal clientele, AND convinced a bunch of my lash pals to do the same. Then something amazing happened- now that I don’t take appointments anymore, my same lash pals charge even more than that. & they’re BOOKED.
This excuse is one that I hear too often about why artists charge low for their services, and while I do agree that where you live can play a part in pricing overall- there’s zero excuse why you can’t charge the highest in your area and raise the bar for others.
I did it, you can do it. The end. 💜🥰

So, you want to set yourself apart in your area by creating beautiful lash sets that people will literally drive an hour or more and pay top dollar for? Good, that’s what I want for you too! Shaping is going to be super important for you in this case because, let’s be honest, it’s not everyone’s strong suit. And it will make or break a set. AND it will make you look like a rockstar when you become a pro.
So, let’s talk about why your lash sets are turning out ‘droopy’…
There are 3 common situations with outer corners that you need to make your bitch to avoid a droopy looking outer eye. (Check the photos to see the difference)
1- Going too Long
This is a very common mistake when styling. Outer corners can be super deceiving when your clients eyes are closed and can look completely different when open. So you’ll need to make sure that you aren’t going too long all the way out on those corners to avoid any droopers.
2- Not using the correct curl
Some people have straight downward growing outer corners, and some people (like me) have ultra curly outer corners, and everywhere in between. So you must be hyper aware of this and make sure you are choosing the correct curl for the natural lash, blending properly and using the correct attachment. (Meaning, you might not want to attach on the bottom of the NL to avoid drooping.)
Ex- I use a short C curl on my outer corners because they are so curly, they end up looking like D curls. Whereas if you are working on a client with straight or downward growing lashes, you’ll likely want a tighter curl to give you more of a lift to avoid drooping!
3- Using too much weight
Outer corner lashes usually grow a little more flimsy and thin. Which means they can’t hold as much weight and will droop and possibly even cause your client pain if you use too heavy of a diameter, too large of a fan or too long of lashes. All of which will cause excess weight and ruin your shaping.
Check out my most podcast Lashes & Bullshit to learn more about shaping and dominate those outer corners!
]]>You've probably noticed that Instagram has been making some major changes, some of which their users (myself included) do not love. In fact, we are anti-stan.
One fun new change that we noticed today is that we have lost our swipe up feature. It was supposed to be replaced with a 'link' sticker, but alas, we do not have a link sticker. #thanksinstagram
Another very annoying feature we lost recently is the repost function. We now have to go to make a story, upload a background photo (or take a photo of your palm and swipe right like I do) and then post the story. This one I'm truly not understanding because any good business knows that you should be taking away extra steps for your customers! Not adding them!
Then, let's just get right the fuck into it. REELS. If you like making reels, you're lying. I don't believe you, leave my website right fucking now.
I believe that this was Zuck's desperate attempt to slow the exploding success of TikTok because Facebook can't stand the idea of not being a complete monopoly and reaching WORLD DOMINATION hahahahaaaaa 😈
No but seriously, what the fuck are they thinking changing the very foundation on which Instagram was built? They originated as the first photo sharing platform, no words, no comments, just photots. People went fucking nuts. It's still a visual platform I will give it that, but in my opinion, the consumers that are on Instagram are not there because they are interested in video content. At least video is not ALL they're interested in! But, it doesn't matter, Instagram went balls deep with this switch and even announced that they are now a 'video sharing platform'. It will be interesting to see if this abrupt change will end up biting them in the rear.
What you can do about it-
Storytime. When I was a little girl we used to sing this song in church called 'The Wise Man' or something.. It went like this:
The foolish man built his house upon the sand, blah blah blah, the tide came in and the house came tumbling down.
The wise man built his house upon the rock, blah blah blah, the tide came in and the house on the rock stood still!
Okay why the eff is Intagram reminding me of nursery songs? Because building your business on social media is like building your house on sand. If the tide comes up (too many changes make people bail off the platform), you're fucked. You know where you need to be building your house you little wise man? On your website, aka your rock. You need to be building your email list and doing what instagram is currently failing at which is taking out that extra step. Provide VALUE and sell directly to your customers with your email list. I don't care what your business is, this is true for all of us.
Start seeing social media for what it is, a tool. A marketing strategy. Not a long term plan to keep customers coming back to your website.
If you provide value to your customers outside of Instagram, you'll have something better than followers. You'll have buyers.

Lil’ basic texture map for your day!! 😏
I like to put my un-fans on first thing and use my mirror to make sure they are evenly spaced and visible! -if you aren’t sure how to un-fan go check out my Instagram tv I’ve got a little video on it).
NEXT- I fill in between the un-fans layer by layer, starting with top, then bottom and last but not least- middle layer. Cause once the top and bottom are full, middle is all you got left ammirite?!
Hot tip 🥵- keep checking with your mirror to make sure you don’t lose those peaks! If you do, have no fear, just remove and reapply a longer or tighter one.
And there you have it! Basic texture in a nutshell!
